Sending hugs and prayers in the loss of your mom to Ann Ashenfelder English and family. I do remember when your young parents were sent to minister at First Presbyterian in Ware Shoals, SC, even though we attended the church across the street! Thinking of you!

Rev. Ashenfelder was my pastor at Eastside Presbyterian Church in Gadsden, AL in the mid-50's. I remember him working personally with me to help me memorize the Chidren's Catechism and become a member of the church. I remember Mrs. Ashenfelder as a warm and welcoming lady, who was a good friend to my mother. When my parents came to visit us here in Norfolk in about '74, we visited the Ashenfelders in Portsmouth. It was a happy reunion of old friends. Both of the Ashenfelders had an influence on me and my two brothers, as well as being friends to my parents and spiritual leaders to our church.

I have fond memories of the Ashenfelder family from Cradock Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Ashenfelder was one of my Sunday school teachers as a child. Reverend Ashenfelder married my husband, Kenny and me in 1985. We exchanged Christmas cards with them for many years. I have a treasured, tiny Nativity ornament she gave me in Sunday school. I place it on our tree every year. They were two of the kindest, most caring people I have ever known. I remember Mrs. Ashenfelder always with a gentle smile on her face. May she Rest in Eternal Peace in Heaven with Reverend Ashenfelder. Wanda Moore Stephens

I was a member of Cradock Presbyterian Church during John and Martha's time there. I remember Martha's loving support of her family and the church well. May God bless you all. Betsy Bonner Brown
