Obituary For Maynard Fredrich Kastner

Maynard (Mike) Fredrich Kastner, 75, of Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away on November 6,2025.

Mike was born in Platteville, Wisconsin in 1950 to John and Sylvia Kastner. He was one of seven children. He stayed in Wisconsin until joining the Navy in 1969. After serving in the military, he eventually settled down in Virginia where he spent the remainder of his life with his beloved wife.

He loved to cook. He spent many years cooking in the Navy and afterwards in local restaurants. Many customers would come to eat only if he was the cook on duty. He loved to prepare big meals for the holidays and was also known for his sweet tooth. His favorite gift to give was often food!

Mike spent his free time hunting and fishing. He was a longtime member of The United Hunt Club and loved spending time in the woods. He also had a soft spot for his many pets. He loved having them close by, slipping them treats, and taking his favorite dogs for truck rides.

Throughout his life, he was a reliable and hard worker—often holding more than one job. He worked night shifts, late hours and weekends to provide for his family. He loved his family fiercely. He will be deeply missed.

Mike is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Elizabeth Kastner, his daughter, Angela Sinclair, and three grandchildren. His loss is greatly felt by all who were close to him.

Simply Cremation is assisting Maynard’s family with the arrangements.
