Virginia Beach - December 3, 2024, the family of Michael Jones lost their complex, generous and loving “rock”!
Preceded in death by his parents, Wilber and Arline Jones, his younger brother, Jimmy Jones and his first love, wife Patsy Jones, he is survived by his last love, wife Deb Stull, daughters Donna Herr (Gina & Sasha) and Melinda Popkin (Steve & Jack Connally), older brother Bill Jones (Gayle), extended family of nephews, nieces, in-laws and his lifelong friends.
Michael loved his family, but his love for music carried him throughout his life. From singing in the Church Choir, to forming his own bands, Snuff and Street Talk, - local bands infamous in the 70s and 80s, Michael took a leap of faith in 1983 and joined forces with Kathie Moore and Cellar Door. Eventually, they formed their own music production company, More Music Group. A long list of agents sprang from his mentoring and guidance in the music industry. He was proud of his 40-years relationship with Fest Events in Norfolk. College towns and festivals throughout the States were better for his involvement.
Michael would jokingly say, “the best song of the night was the last song.” Our dear beloved Michael, the last song has been sung, and we hope its melody brings peace to all blessed to have known your love!
There will be a private internment of his ashes at a later date where he will be laid to rest by his beloved Patsy.

I had known who Mike was for many years of playing music around the area. Met him during his years with Snuff. He was larger than life in those days as was his band. I was honored to be on the ground floor when Street Talk was formed. Our first meetings took place in he and Patsy's living room in Riverview. What a gracious host and class act Patsy was. We went on playing together for the next three years...and again he was larger than life in any situation. Whether it was problems with equipment, our truck, band personalities...and booking agents. He reigned supreme and always found a solution. And was well respected by all who knew him. We remained friends and in occasional contact throughout the rest of his life. Godspeed my good friend...it was a privilege to share the stage with you...

Oh, Mike. You were a good friend for over sixty years - since we met in the Syms JHS band. Although we kept in touch by phone, I really regret not seeing you since the KHS 50th Anniversary in 2019. I love you buddy! 🙁 https://youtu.be/jtSYVDiBlpk

My beloved Michael, for 42 years we were dear friends. For the past 3 years, we became partners in life searching and finding that chance at a "for the rest of our lives" love affair. I am so very grateful we took that leap of faith and shared that love! I was safe in your arms, and for the rest of my life, I will feel blessed for the time we did have. My love, it was an honor to be your wife!

Michael was everything and more that has been expressed in the words of those that loved him. I wish that I could have seen him one more time, and listen to the tales of the Snuff days. He made me laugh so hard. But he is with angels now. And he will sing among them.

I am just finding out about the passing of this great guy and Kecoughtan HS Classmate. My heartfelt prayers go to Mike's family and legion of friends from a lifetime of being such a genuine and caring person. What an interesting life he lived. And legacy he left. Beautiful tributes from others are so uplifting. May we all meet again in that great beyond but until then sail on. You will be missed. ❤️🕊️🌹

I will miss you Mike Jones and the miles we traveled in our youth with Snuff and Street Talk. I will miss the conversations that we had in later life that we swore wouldn't turn into a "Road Story" greatest hits fest, but somehow always did. We had a friendship that lasted many years and I will miss you everyday my friend. Sleep well Mike, sleep well. Chris Carlson

So many good memories, you, Patsy and band mates...1971 - 2024, you are missed Mike. I know those who left us prior have joined the angel's choir and now, full of your vocals and hopefully a little saxophone to round it out. Til we meet again.

Michael loved to save the day. He did so many times for me throughout my life, and for so many others. Both grandiose gestures and small acts of kindness were not uncommon for him. He had friends from every walk of life and would leap to help them when he saw an opportunity. He loved to tell a story, loved to make people laugh. The world was his stage! My sister and I bought him the movie "Big Fish" for Father's Day one year because he "lived large" and could definitely tell a fish story! If you ever experienced a hug from Michael during the height of his size, you understand precisely what people describe as a bear hug! It made you feel so safe - It was the best feeling. Michael was nothing less than my hero during my mother's last days with us. I remember Michael arranged to have her beloved horses ridden back and forth past the large picture windows of their living room where my mother spent her final days. While my mother looked on, we were unsure of her eyesight as she was no longer speaking. So, Michael described each tiny detail for her down to the way the horses' coats glistened in the sunlight and how proud and strong they cantered. She smiled. There was no greater gift than that. I couldn't fathom where those beautiful words came from. They came from a heart of gold. If you experienced Michael's love and kindness you never forgot it. We will never forget it. I miss you! - Melinda
