Nancy Pitchford Cooney, a beloved mother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 89. Born on February 22, 1936, in New York, she lived a life marked by grace and devotion to her family.

Nancy spent her years as a dedicated homemaker and later enjoyed a fulfilling retirement, where she found great joy in spending time with her family and friends, traveling, golfing, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. Her warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael Morse Cooney, her parents, Alice and Victor Pitchford, sister Jane Nicholson, brother-in-law James Nicholson, sister Laural Ann John and brother-in-law J. Jean John. Nancy is survived by her devoted children, Patrick Cooney and Beth Owens, along with their spouses Patricia Cooney and Greg Owens. Nancy is also survived by her loving grandchildren and great grandchildren who will forever cherish her memory and carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.

Per Nancy’s wishes there will be an immediate family only memorial and internment at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frederick, Maryland. Her family requests privacy as they grieve the loss of a remarkable woman whose memory will be cherished in their hearts forever.

May she rest in peace, reunited with those she loved and lost before her.
