Obituary For Norma Gay Grimes Eley
Virginia Beach
Norma Gay Grimes Eley passed away peacefully on July 15, 2015. She was a resident of Virginia Beach for 50 years. Born in 1940, Gay is the daughter of the late Frances Aleyse Hartman Grimes and Marvin Carl Grimes of Norfolk, VA; granddaughter of the late Norma Stewart Jennings Hartman and Pern Cowling Hartman of Norfolk, VA and the late Annie Pauline Gaskins Grimes and James Henry Grimes of Portsmouth, VA. Gay was a graduate of Maury High School, class of 1957, and attended the College of William and Mary, Extension (now O.D.U.) In the early 1960's she worked at WTAR-TV as a Promotional Secretary, and was later employed as an Administrative Secretary for the Virginia Beach City Public School system from 1977 until her retirement in 1996 from Princess Anne High School, where she worked for 19 years. A lifetime member of the Virginia Beach Association of Educational Office Professionals (VBAEOP)and the Princess Anne High School Retirees Club, Gay enjoyed socializing and keeping in touch with many former coworkers and students. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and spending time with her family — especially enjoying visits from her adored grandchildren. Friends and neighbors knew Gay as the nice lady usually sitting on her front porch, saying hello to anyone strolling by, and always quick to produce a biscuit for a passing dog. If you knew Gay, you knew her family, too, through the many stories and photos she shared — and she wouldn't rest until, in turn, she learned all about you and your family as well. Gay is survived by her beloved husband, Marvin G. Eley, Jr.; son Marvin Richard Eley and his wife Leslie Wallis Eley; daughter Elizabeth Gaye Eley, grandson Sebastion Eley Tesauro, granddaughter Cecilia Grace Tesauro; and sister-in-law Addie Holmes Eley. A memorial service will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Smithfield, VA, at a later date. Remembrances are requested to be made to the Kempsville Volunteer Rescue Squad in appreciation of the excellent and compassionate service provided to our family over the years.
