Obituary For Norman Gudmundsson

Norman Gudmundsson

1944 - 2025

Norman Gudmundsson, age 80, was born in Queens, NY on November 13, 1944 and died June 17, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA. He was born in Jamaica Hospital to Eleanor Gudmundsson and Olaf Gudmundsson. At the age of six, he developed polio which later in life progressed to post polio syndrome.

Norm grew up in Massapequa Park, NY and was graduated from Massapequa High School. Following HS, he completed courses in drafting and worked in the field for a number of years. He moved to Daytona Beach, Florida when his parents retired. After his parents passed, he moved to Virginia Beach to live with his sister, Karen Horgan, brother-in-law, James, and nephew, Mike.

Norm had many interests, especially NASCAR racing. He was train enthusiast and spent many years building N-scale layouts. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and belonged to several bowling leagues. He was an ardent fan of the Washington Commanders and the New York Mets.

A private ceremony of his immediate family will take place in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the March of Dimes, the organization founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt to combat polio.

Norm will remain in our hearts forever.

For many years, in our youth Norman was my best friend. We had great times and fun playing stickball, bball and exploring the woods. He was truly a great guy. Although I haven't seen him in a long, long time l still love him as a brother and the world is less in his passing. I'm so sorry Karen.
