Portsmouth- Oda Weldon Whitehurst, Jr

Oda Weldon (Red) Whitehurst, 80 died Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at home. Born December 7, 1943, in Norfolk, VA, he was the son of Oda Weldon and Maude Whitehurst Sr. He was loved nurtured and raised by Linwood and Isabelle Simmons. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Weldon Whitehurst and his son-in-law Robert Baker and his chosen brother Jon Belding. Survivors include his wife Elise and daughter Susan Baker, chosen son Todd Belding (Vickie), brother Donald Simmons (JoAnne), granddaughters Kelly, Kim and Olivia and three great-grandchildren Michael, Kara and Abigail, nephew Scott (Michelle) and niece Jill. Red was a retired mechanical contractor and a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local Union 110. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, January 27th at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, 5201 Portsmouth Blvd, officiated by Rev. Mark L White. Reception to follow at 312 Robin Road, Portsmouth, VA. The family would like to thank the staff of Bon Secours Hospice for their dedication.
