Obituary For Patsy Jean Carroll

Patsy Jean Carroll, born on April 24, 1948, passed away peacefully in her home on July 8, 2025 in Virginia Beach, VA at the age of 77.

A native of Ohio, Patsy often reminisced about her childhood and the summers she’d spend at the family cottage with her parents and sister, a tradition she later shared with her own children. Inspired by her father, Patsy enjoyed a life-long love of music and would often be heard singing around the house or to music playing on the radio. She was always willing to help others and was known for her generous spirit and kind heart.

Patsy dedicated many years of her professional life to the Internal Revenue Service, where she was respected for her diligence and commitment to her work. An educator by trade, Patsy worked in tax payer services supporting families and individuals with their questions. Her dedication and integrity were evident to all who had the privilege of working alongside her.

Patsy had the joy of living with her son Chris and his family in her later years, being able to watch her grandchildren grow up in their father’s childhood home. She is fondly remembered for her warmth, compassion, and unwavering support of those she loved.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Jean McSpadden of Cincinnati, Ohio, her husband Arthur Carroll, and her stepdaughter Jennifer Durr.

She is survived by her children Stephanie (Drew) Teri, Ryan (Jennifer) Dunphey, Christopher (Sarah) Dunphey, and stepdaughter Kimberly (Jim) Mountjoy; her cherished grandchildren Anne, Ben, Devin, Shannon, Jacob, Alivia, Grace, Davis, Eli, Finn, Carson, and Topher; and her beloved sister Sandra O’Leary.

A service to honor Patsy’s life will be held at a later date. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched.

I thank God every time I remember you . . . being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3, 6.
