Obituary For Paul Denzil Harris III

Paul Denzil Harris, III “Danny” age, 79, passed away peacefully at home in Virginia Beach on April 29th,2023 after a long and courageous battle with throat cancer.

He was the son of the late Paul D. Harris, Jr. “Bubba” and the late Mabel I. Harris of Norfolk, VA.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Susan Todd Harris, a brother David T. Harris (Susan) and a sister Paula D. Harris (Ted) both of Norfolk, his 7 children, Dawn H. McDaniel of Norfolk, Richard G. Harris of Salem Alabama, Troy M. Harris (Angel) of Arden, NC, Mandy E. Harris of Norfolk, Angela D. Rowland (Ron) of Chesapeake, Paul D. Harris IV (Sara) and Kathleen P. “Katie” Farias (Barry) and Jerry Coleman, his son at heart, all of Virginia Beach, 22 Grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

After attending Norview High School, Class of ’61, he started his career as a pipefitter with Norfolk Shipbuilding and Dry Dock, continued as a Civil Servant with the Naval Shipyard and then Public Works Dept at NOB, Norfolk. In 1987 he went to work as a Supervisor with the City of Norfolk Parks and Recreation Maintenance. This was the job he loved the most.

Danny was a life-long fan of the New York Yankees and the Washington Redskins. He was an all-around athlete and enjoyed golf, baseball, football, tennis, and continued playing softball and golf well into his sixties and early seventies. He instilled his competitive nature and love of sports onto his children and grandchildren and has loved instructing, coaching, and attending all their sporting events.

A celebration of life will take place May 13th,2023 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at TASTE at Town Center 4513 Commerce St. Virginia Beach, VA 23462.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to either The St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or the Tidewater Lost Chord Club c/o Treasurer Joe Marasco, 7320 Glenroie Ave., Unit 10, Norfolk, VA 23505.

    Love, prayers, and loving memories to the entire Harris Family and their friends. RIP Pops Harris.

    I was 12 when they got married and was fortunate enough to be involved in the event. Danny was the most Loving husband and a Wonderful Dad to all of his children. I loved him very much and he will be missed by so many people. Fly High Angel and keep an eye out for your loved ones.
