Obituary For Rebecca Anne Morning

Our funny, uninhibited, beloved Wife, Daughter, Sister, Cousin, Aunt (Titi) and friend Rebecca Ann Flemming (Becky) was peacefully welcomed into Heaven Sunday afternoon March 16, 2025. She was at home surrounded in prayer by those she loved. Becky was born in 1982 at Virginia Beach General Hospital to Mary D. Merritt and Douglas Setchel of Virginia Beach, VA. Immediately, Becky displayed her fun loving ‘Hey Girl’ attitude.

Becky was truly authentic. She enjoyed life especially the ‘finer’ things… Becky was always ready to take the trip, eat the cake and buy the shoes. Her profession as a hair stylist was her passion, proudly making everyone in her chair feel their absolute best. Becky graduated from Rudy & Kelly Academy in 2011. At a very young age we knew Becky would be a stylist, as she loved to cut all her Barbie’s hair making them bald.

As much as Becky loved her profession, the accomplishments she was most proud of were her two Daughters Katelyn and Kortney. These two girls were the light of her life and Becky particularly loved to watch their many years of dance recitals. As much as her children were her ‘world’, her Mom was ‘her person.’

Becky and her husband Shawn married in 2011 and for Becky she knew at first sight. Together they enjoyed many family vacations, holidays and when illness hit, Shawn was there to help wherever he could.

Becky loved her family dearly. She and her sister Barbara were always up to something competing for the ‘favorite child’ spot. She loved to sing and dance with both her Dad’s, loved being a ‘Titi’ to her nephew Jonathan (who she called ‘phew’) and loved her niece Sophia (who was always known as ‘Titi’s girl’). During the holidays, family would gather at Gigi’s house which were some of Becky’s favorite memories… Lots of laughter, love and shenanigans.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Daniel Aruch and his staff at Virginia Oncology Associates. Dr. Aruch always dedicated the time needed and never stopped finding a way to be hopeful. After every visit, Becky always left his office laughing, even on the toughest days. Becky always said, “Dr. Aruch just makes me happy.” The family will be forever thankful for Dr. Aruch’s positive outlook and care.

Becky was preceded in death by her grandfather George Duc, daughter Kasandra MaryAnne, Granddaughter Demari Carter, Grandparents Rev. Eugene O. Setchel and Barbara Jean Setchel and granddaughter Damari Carter.

Becky is survived by her Mother, Mary Merritt and Stepfather Curt Merritt, her Father Douglas Setchel, Grandmother Shirley Krist, husband Shawn Flemming, Daughters Katelyn and Kortney Morning, Sisters Barbara Jean Setchel and Alicia Wiedemann, Nephews Jonathan Favia, Wesley and Austin Wiedemann, Nieces Sophia Setchel and Margot June Wiedemann, Aunt and Uncle Carol and Ronnie Rickman, Denise Favia, Grandchildren Damani Randle, De’aira Carter, Da’riyah Johnson, and several other relatives.

Our Becky Boo may have left this world way too soon, but she will forever leave a smile on our hearts. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on April 5 th, 12:00 pm noon at Beach Fellowship Church 1817 General Booth Blvd., Virginia Beach, VA 23454. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Becky to the Melanoma Research Alliance at give.curemelanoma.org. MRA is the world's largest private nonprofit funder of melanoma research who’s mission is to cure Melanoma.

Simply Cremation is handling the arrangements.

My cousin we shared so many memories & laughs throughout our years together. Every time we got together there was never a dull moment. You were a truly a light in this world. Every-time I would come visit after moving to Florida you always made time to come by Gigis and visit with me for a few hours. You will forever remain in my heart and mind. May you rest in the arms of our savior until we meet again. I love you always. Josh Rickman
