Obituary For Richard "Dick" Clifford Grant Jr.

Richard “Dick” Clifford Grant Jr., 68, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026.

Born June 9, 1958, in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, to Marjorie Jeanette Carder and Richard Clifford Grant Sr., Dick devoted 20 years of his life to serving his country in the United States Navy. He retired as a Weapons Technician Chief Petty Officer and carried great pride in his military service throughout his life.

An avid hunter, fisherman, and camper, Dick was happiest outdoors, surrounded by nature. He enjoyed feeding the birds, deer, squirrels, and whatever other critters happened to cross his path. Over the years, he opened his home and heart to many stray cats and kittens, caring for and cherishing each one. He also loved spending time with his best friends and their dogs, always happy to have his four-legged buddies around. He was a loyal Pittsburgh Steelers and NASCAR fan and knew how to appreciate the simple pleasures in life—a good song playing on the radio, a cold beer, and the company of good friends.

Those closest to him will gather privately to scatter his ashes. A celebration of life will be held in the near future.

Friends and loved ones are encouraged to remember Dick in their own special way and celebrate the memories, stories, and friendship he leaves behind.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Shortly after his last birthday, and before he went into the hospital, we got to spend a few hours together. It was completely by chance that we ended up at the same place, at the same time. We spent time chatting and enjoying one of the nicest days Virginia Beach had had all year. His smile that day is burned into my memory, and I'll continue to thank God that He brought us together that day. I'll miss talking to him, his presence at the holidays, and watching him carefully lay out peanuts for the squirrels most. Miss you already.
