Obituary For Royal "Roy" Thomas Richardson, Jr.

Royal Thomas Richardson Jr., was born on June 3, 1943 to the late Royal (Sr.) and Elouise Richardson in Norfolk County, Virginia. He departed this life on September 14, 2014 at Sentara Leigh Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Roy graduated from Crestwood Senior High, class of 1963. After high school, Roy's independent nature sent him into the Air Force where he became a cryptologist and was first based at Glasgow Air Force Base, Montana.

In his early life, Roy was very loving toward his mother and two younger sisters. While working as a stock person at John's Market, he would bring gifts home to his two younger sisters and send gifts while stationed away, showing his generous spirit and love for family. He loved crabbing and fishing with his dad. Roy had a love for the Bible and was very well versed on several subjects but his love was for the Old Testament and the knowledge of God the Father. He accepted Christ at an older age.

Perhaps Roy will most be remembered for his sense of humor and temper. But he loved people and he could make friends with anyone.

He was formerly married to Josephine Harris and from this union three children were born. He was preceded in death by his son, Royal Thomas Richardson III, his daughter, Trina Richardson and his brother, Pedro "Pete" Marquez.

Left with memories are his daughter, Zandra R. Richardson; three brothers, James "Sonny" Turner of Chesapeake VA, Carl F. Marquez of Norfolk VA, and Joe Massenburg of Nashville NC; three sisters, Conchita "Connie" Hunter of Philadelphia PA, Christine "Chris" Allbritton of Chesapeake, VA and Eve M. Winfield (Jesse), whom he loving called "Marie" or "Ree." He is also survived by 15 nephew and nieces and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Powerhouse Fellowship Church, 2508 Hemple Street, Chesapeake VA 23324. Dr. Julius Franklin, Interim Pastor, will officiate.
