Obituary For Samuel Allen Miles II

Samuel Allen Miles II, born on September 19, 1934, in Pueblo, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on May 8, 2026, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the age of 91.

Samuel proudly served his country in the United States Navy for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) after a distinguished military career marked by dedication, leadership, and integrity. Following his military service, he continued a life of public service as Director of Training for the Federal Communications Commission, where his professionalism and commitment left a lasting impression on colleagues and those he mentored.

A faithful member of the Church of Christ, Samuel lived a life grounded in faith, service, and devotion to his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured time with those he loved most.

Samuel shared 64 years of marriage with his first wife, Bettie Miles, until her passing in 2017. Together they built a strong foundation of faith, family, and lasting love. He later married Audrey Ruck, with whom he shared three years of companionship and marriage before her passing in February 2026.

Outside of his professional career, Samuel had a lifelong passion for aviation. He loved flying private planes and found great joy in teaching and mentoring others to fly, sharing both his knowledge and enthusiasm for aviation with countless students and friends over the years.

He is survived by his daughters, Patricia Saul, Janet Faulkner, and Susan Diane Cowan; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of strength, kindness, faith, and love for family.

The family is planning a private scattering of ashes at sea at a later date. Simply Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements.
