Sarah Francis Combs Bond

Sarah Bond passed away at her home on Sunday, November 19, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on December 24, 1961, to Frank and Mary Combs. “Frances” (as she is called by family members) was the ninth in line of 10 children; five brothers and four sisters.

Frances dedicated her life to Jehovah, becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2000 and remaining faithful until her death. She was a member of the Landstown congregation in Virginia Beach and later the Norfolk East congregation until her death.

Frances enjoyed the ministry and participated in it as much as she could, only stopping very recently when her bodily strength began failing. Throughout her courageous fight, her faith in Jehovah and the resurrection hope continued to grow. She relied heavily on Jehovah each day and made serving him, correctly, her focus. She used her time in hospice to discuss the Bible with her care takers.

Frances graduated from Norview High school in 1980 and went on to attend the Wards Corner Beauty Academy, successfully completing the coursework and becoming an exceptional licensed hair stylist.

Frances was also a certified home health aide. Having this certification allowed Frances to care for her aging parents until their deaths.

Frances was predeceased by her parents Frank and Mary Combs, her sister, Carolyn Jackson, her youngest brother Frankie Combs, her nephew Marcus Chew and her maternal and paternal grandparents. Frances leaves to treasure her memory four sisters, Mary Fallin, Barbara Escoe (Joe) and Diana Combs-Hines of Norfolk, Virginia; four brothers Charles and Gerald Chew of Norfolk, Virginia; Ricki Chew of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Gary Chew (Annette) of Norfolk, Virginia, four aunts, Marguerite Pulley, Arlene Gross, Maggie White, and Gloria Brown; all of Maryland, a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and her dearest and closest friend Dorothy McLeod of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
