Obituary For Sharon 'Jesse' Alice Harter
Sharon ‘Jesse’ Harter passed away peacefully at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Virginia Beach on August 22, 2023 after heart failure while battling multiple medical complications.
She was born in Burnsville, North Carolina on January 30, 1947 to her parents John and Ruby Shepard (both deceased). She married Marvin ‘Butch” Cook (deceased) in 1966 and they had 3 amazing children together, Denise Pressley, Marvin Cook Jr, and Johnny Cook. Butch and Sharon divorced after many years of marriage, however remained good friends.
Sharon married Russell Harter on December 30, 1986 and they remained married until his death in February of 2021. Russ gave Sharon the nickname of ‘Jesse’ and it stuck with her for the rest of her days.
Jesse treated Russell’s children from a previous marriage as her own, creating a loving and caring blended family. In addition to her 3 children above, Jesse is survived by her step-children: Russell Harter, Michael Harter, Vickie McCarty, Steven Harter and Samantha Harter. She is a second mother to many Son-In-Laws and Daughter In-Laws. She has 16 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.
Jesse had multiple jobs throughout her life but is best remembered for her friendships, cooking, baking and the love and care she shared with everyone she touched.
Jesse possessed a love for all animals, especially dogs. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Virginia Beach SPCA in her honor. This can be done on the following website: www.vbspca.com
