Obituary For Shiela Denise Mallett

Shiela Denise Mallett

Born 12-21-1962 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Passed Away 08-27-2022 Virginia Beach, Virginia

She is survived in life by her one and only son, Tonny Mallett Mosby, her pride and joy who she loved deeply. The mother and son connection that she had with Tonny was like no other. Her mother Dorothy Mallett and father Lloyd Mallett she loved and cared for them deeply and would often times take time away from her job in Virginia and travel back to Milwaukee to spend weeks and months caring for them before she got sick and ill and was not able to do so anymore. Shiela was the best daughter a parent could ever ask for. Shiela is also survived by her younger brother Derrick Mallett and sister Bernita Mallett and several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins across multiple states, and lifelong friends everywhere. Shiela had great love for her family and was thankful to have spent her last days with the family members that came from everywhere to be with her to give her some love and comfort. She is survived locally in Norfolk, VA by the love of her life, Dennis K. Raabe, who will truly miss her. There will never be another to take her place. She was truly my better half, my everything.

Shiela worked at the South Norfolk Public Library and loved working with her coworkers and the customers that she served. Thank you to everyone at the South Norfolk Public Library who became the best of friends to Shiela and for the love that you showed her in life.

Shiela enjoyed the simple things and simple pleasures in life and loved to make people laugh and she loved to laugh. She loved music, especially classic R&B as well as Old School Gospel. She was the biggest Tupac and Prince fan I ever knew. She enjoyed singing and before she got sick, she loved to dance. Shiela loved cooking and grilling, and could out grill most people, especially spareribs and she made the best collard greens and dressing. She loved going for walks with Dennis in the neighborhood as well as down on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk before she got sick and could not walk anymore. She loved taking long road trips home back to Milwaukee to see her parents as well as road trips to Atlanta to see her son Tonny.

Shiela’s final wishes were to be simply cremated and for her ashes to be returned to Milwaukee for a going home celebration with date and time to be determined.

Hey Baby I know it's the day before your birthday but wanted you to see the beautiful flowers I got you. In life you always received flowers from me and you always will on your special day. I miss you so much but the good times and memories of you help carry me through each and every day.

My prayers and love go out to the entire family! Sheila and I became the best of friends in junior high school and remained friends through all of our good times and not so good times. We laughed, cried, and prayed together. She will always be in my heart and I will cherish our memories forever. Love, Valencia

Hey Dear, I will always love you, you my darling you! Here is the poem that I shared at my Grandmother's funeral several years ago, which I know the words are true when I think about you: She is Gone You can shed tears that she is gone, Or you can smile because she has lived You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back, Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left Your heart can be empty because you can't see her Or you can be full of the love that you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday You can remember her and only that she is gone Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back Or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
