Obituary For Steven Thorne

Steven Allen Thorne, age 76 of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away suddenly, however peacefully, on Dec. 6, 2020. Steve was born on Jan 21,1944 to Allen T. and Beulah Carver Thorne, in Vincennes, IN.

At age 20, he and his lifelong friend, Austin, enlisted in the Navy, where he became stationed in Norfolk, VA, achieving the rank of Petty Officer Third-class. Here, he met his wife, Carol, separated from the military, and began a highly successful career in sales. He began his career as a sales representative at Haynes Furniture and continued to build his resume, working for Sleepwell and King Koil/Paramount Bedding.

To know him was to love him, and anyone he would meet, Steve made them feel like family. He was the walking definition of kindness and a shining example of generosity. He is famously known to offer, to anyone and everyone, “If you ever need a mattressâ?¦” He believed strongly that one should dress for success and offer a firm handshake, and he would always be found in a sharp suit, with perfect hair, and wearing Paul Sebastian cologne!

Steve was a winner - whether it was playing golf, shooting pool, playing cards, or just walking into a room of strangers. He could often be heard saying “Fun, fun, fun.” Steve earned countless accolades, top sales awards, as well as national sales awards throughout his career. He was genuine and developed strong friendships with the people he worked with.

Steve was devoted to his family and is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Kenney (Keith), his wife, Carol, his three children, Tiffany Keiper (Matt), Amy Martinez (Mike), Greg (Amanda), and his two grandchildren, Gabrielle and Ethan.

We will see you again and until then, Shama Lama Ding Dong!

Thorne family - I worked with Steve for many years at Paramount. He was the very definition of a Southern Gentleman. He spoke with love about all of you. It was clear he cherished his family.

Steven, we all Love You, GOD SPEED, My Brother.
We all thought we were good golfers which justified our many golf trips to Myrtle Beach together. The truth is we were all crappy golfers. WE ALL WENT TO MYRTLE BEACH FOR THE LASTING FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE.

Steve was one of my best friends and will be sorely missed. He was generous and kind and loved by everyone he met. I am definitely a better person because I was lucky enough to be his friend.RIP and I know you are a hit in heaven already.

I remember a lanky adolescent boy who shared cheerleading with me at Clark Jr. High School in Vincennes, IN. I do not remember Steve ever saying a bad word against anyone. Rest in peace, gentle soul.
