Velma Susan Olson, resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, at age 97 passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 24, 2024. Velma was born October 2, 1927 in Langham Saskatchewan Canada, to David and Susanna Nichols. She is survived by his sons Jerald (wife Marsha Olson) of Salt Lake City, Utah; Douglas (wife Nely Olson) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kenneth (wife Dawn Olson) of Chesapeake, Virginia and her grandchildren, Omny, Shannon, Erik, Carla, and John. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Michael Olson, her sisters Olga, Della, and Elnora (Eleanor) and her brothers Benjamin and Clarence.

She was active in cub scouts, PTA, band parents, and volunteered at Churchland High School. She enjoyed planting flowers and hanging out with her friends. She was a great cook but was not always fond of cooking but she was one of the best bakers around and was known to have many tins of multiple types of cookies at any one time. To sum it up, she was an awesome mom and she will be deeply missed.

Family will receive visitors at Hickory United Methodist fellowship hall from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. This will be a casual event.

Interment will be at Duck Run Natural Cemetery in Penn Laird, Virginia at a future date.
