Obituary For Veronica Josephine Newman

Virginia Beach - Veronica J. Newman, 90, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 6, 2025, after a long illness. A native of East Bridgwater, Massachusetts, she had been a resident of Virginia Beach for the past 49 years.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth R. Newman of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts and daughter of the late Helen Robak Burgess of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jenny Burgess Rivera, and her granddaughter, Kathleen Mounce.

Veronica was the mother of five children; Glenda Newman of Virginia Beach; Elizabeth McQuesten of Ohio; Sandra Hathaway of Virginia; Russell Newman of New York; and Clifford Newman of Arkansas; grandmother of 16; great grandmother of 23; great-great grandmother of 5.

She is also survived by sisters; Theresa Denson and Mary Carrell; brother, Robert Burgess as well as many cousins, nieces, great nieces, great-great nieces, nephews, great nephews, and great-great-nephews.

Mrs. Newman was a career homemaker as well as a childcare provider for many different families over the years. During her husband's Naval career, she was appreciated for her unselfish, faithful, and devoted service while Mr. Newman fulfilled his duties for our nation on several nine-month deployments abroad.

She was a member of The First Evangelica Lutheran Church in Brockton, MA. Previously she was a member of St Johns Church in East Bridgewater, MA. She enjoyed crafting, knitting, crocheting, and traveling all over the US to visit family and friends.

Veronica Newman, affectionately known as "Nanny", will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is forever in our hearts.

    Sad to hear about Veronica's passing. She was a very caring person, and I miss the conversations we used to have, as she would keep me up to date on her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. My condolences to them.
