Obituary For Vincent Roland Allen III

Chesapeake, Virginia – Vincent Roland Allen III, 68, passed away on October 24, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, friendships, stories, and a family who loved him dearly.

Vincent was born on October 23, 1958, in Norfolk, Virginia, to Vincent Roland Allen Jr. and Peggy Beck. He was a dedicated South Norfolk resident all his life. Everywhere he went, everyone seemed to know “Whitehead.” He was a man who stood up for what he believed in, both for himself and for the people around him. He was known for his strength, determination, work ethic, and, most of all, the way he showed up for the people he cared about.

Growing up in South Norfolk, Vincent was known for boxing and running. His love of running stayed with him throughout his life. While attending Oscar Smith High School, he ran track and received a Meritorious Award for Outstanding Participation in Cross Country in 1974 and 1975. In 1981, he placed 70th out of 2,000 runners in the Shamrock Marathon, an accomplishment that reflected the determination he carried into everything he did.

Vincent was also happiest when surrounded by good friends and a good game of pool. He spent many days playing pool at Jumping Jack’s and the 33rd in South Norfolk. He enjoyed football talk with Ricky, Cartwright, John, and his daughter, and he had a way of turning everyday moments into memories.

In his younger years, Vincent worked at the Bargain House before eventually owning and operating Whitehead’s Lawn Care, proudly carrying the motto, “One call can do it all.” He took tremendous pride in his work and in helping his customers. He believed in giving people a chance and would give anyone a job as long as they were willing to work.

Vincent also spent 36 years working at the 33rd, where he did just about everything — cooking, bartending, bouncing, and janitorial work — alongside some of his closest friends. Even through the many medical challenges he faced, Vincent continued to work hard and refused to let anything stop him. He often said, “There’s money out there, you just have to go out and get it.”

Family was at the heart of Vincent’s life. He was a devoted son, brother, father, Pop-Pop, and friend. He was especially proud of being a Pop-Pop and gave each of his grandchildren a special name. He loved each of his grandchildren and great-grandchild deeply, and they gave him so much purpose and joy.

Vincent is survived by his mother, Peggy B. Allen of Virginia Beach; his sister, Brenda Gregory and her husband, Gerald, of Willow Springs, Missouri; his children, Jennifer Ferrer and her husband, Gerardo, and Zachary Pullen and his wife, Kelsey, all of Chesapeake; his grandchildren, Daimion and Emmalin Ferrer and Alex and Bella Carpio, all of Chesapeake; his bonus daughter, Tracey Nelson of Chesapeake; his four bonus grandchildren; his four-legged best friend, Chole; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Vincent Allen Jr.; his wife, Phyllis Inos Allen; and his sisters, Cheryl Mason of Chesapeake, Deborah Coen of Dallas, Texas, and Cathy Vega of Gillette, Wyoming.

Vincent was a longtime member of Agape Ministries in Chesapeake. No matter how he was feeling or what challenges he faced, he made it a point to attend church every Sunday. His faith was an important part of his life and remained a source of strength for him.

Vincent had a special appreciation for the simple things that made life enjoyable. Even though he was diabetic, he could never resist a bake sale, Little Barbara’s banana pudding, or Mrs. Bowes’ chocolate cake. Those small moments — good food, good conversation, football talk, a game of pool, and time with the people he loved — were part of what made Vincent who he was.

Vincent leaves behind more than a family; he leaves behind a community of people who knew him, worked beside him, laughed with him, played pool with him, shared meals with him, and called him a friend. His presence was unforgettable, and his memory will continue through the many lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Agape Ministries, 4227 Bainbridge Boulevard, Chesapeake, Virginia 23324. Family and friends are invited to gather for lunch together in the church’s event hall following the service.

Simply Cremation is assisting Vincent’s family with the arrangements.
