Vivian Schwalbe

Virginia Beach, VA - Born to Alice (Snyder) and Phil Blum on December 18, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky, Vivian Billie Schwalbe passed on September 24, 2026. She built a life centered on love, family, and devotion to those closest to her. She shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Karl Schwalbe, prior to his passing in 2015.

Her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to her son, David Schwalbe who preceded her in death, and her surviving daughter, Ellyn Hodgis (Jeffrey) who will forever hold her close in her heart. She was a cherished MomMom to five grandchildren; Sarah Dietrich (Kevin), Courtney Gonzales (BenRico), Jason Mead (Himashi), Jessica Thompson (Stephen), Nicholas Mead (Michelle), and a proud great-grandmother to seven great-grandsons; Theo, Crusade, Killian, Alexander, Dexter, Radko, and Rubix. Her love, wisdom, and the memories she created with each generation will remain a lasting part of her family's story.

Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the countless memories that will be treasured for generations to come.

She will be remembered for her love of family, chocolate, water aerobics, bowling, Sorry, and Mahjong.

Family and friends are invited to gather to remember Vivian, and her life well lived on October 17, 2026, 1 PM at 4836 Orchard Lane, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, donations in Vivian’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
