William J. Forrest Jr. (Bill), age 82, of Norfolk, VA passed away Thursday, October 22, 2020. He was born in Somerville, MA on May 11, 1938 to the late William and Dorothea Forrest. Bill was also preceded in death by his brother Edward. He is survived by brothers Charles and James; sister-in-law Joan; his significant other, Helen Cook; children Kimberly (Michael) Gottlieb and Jeffrey Forrest; grandsons Joshua (Melissa) Akers, Matthew Akers, Austin Forrest and Garrett Forrest; great grandsons Tyler and Dylan Akers; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bill was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving his country working with and flying helicopters. After leaving the Corps, Bill had a long and distinguished career with The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, managing several stores in the Maryland/DC/Northern Virginia areas. Bill learned to sail, earning his captain's license, earned his private pilot's license, taught himself the electric keyboard and had gigs as part of a country music band. He loved life. In retirement he distributed papers for the Virginian Pilot but devoted most of his time to his first love, sailing. His family is heartbroken over his loss, and he will be sorely missed.
