Obituary For William Joseph Melchers

Norfolk- William "Bill" Joseph Melchers went home to the Lord in the early morning of Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia. He was 62 years old.

Bill was born on October 29, 1960. He was the son of the late Arthur Carl Melchers and the late Mary Katherine (Hickey) Melchers.

A lifelong resident of Norfolk, Bill graduated in 1979 from J. J. Brewbaker Academy, where he loved to play basketball. He worked as a machinist in the shipyard before serving his country in the United States Navy and touring the Mediterranean. After leaving the Navy, Bill worked as a delivery driver. He was known for being calm and patient on the road.

Bill had an excellent memory for numbers and statistics, and a love for big words and their definitions. He loved sports of all kinds and was a fan of the Baltimore Orioles.

Bill was a fun and easygoing person who enjoyed the beach, boating, and skiing, both on water and snow. He had no problem waterskiing on just one ski. He was proud of having skied the French Alps.

Bill is survived by his life partner, Ann King of Norfolk, Virginia, his stepmother Mary Ann of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his sister Kitty (Bill) Sebring of Moyock, North Carolina, his brother Tom (Terri) Melchers of Virginia Beach, Virginia, his sister Barbara (Wade) Wickre of Smithfield, Virginia, his brother Gari (Wanda) Melchers of Vinton, Virginia, his brother John (Karen) Melchers of Chesapeake, Virginia, his son Brian (Ann) Melchers of Raleigh, North Carolina, his son Daniel (Jamaila) Melchers of Chesapeake, Virginia, his grandchildren Jordahna Melchers, Julian Melchers, and Adrian Melchers of Chesapeake, Virginia, and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 20 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 154 West Government Ave., Norfolk, VA 23503.

    I am very sorry to hear of this news. My heart breaks for everyone. He was always so polite and happy to see everyone at Christmas dinners and Sunday dinners. He will be greatly missed, him and Tom were very close. Prayers and thoughts. Wonderful read of his earthly life! With Love, Kierstin
